Abstract | The 2 Seas (southern North Sea) area has the most extensively dune protected coast in Europe. Dunes ecosystems cross political borders yet are managed on an ad hoc basis at local levels resulting in an inefficient approach or receive no management at all. Joint working is vital to deliver a sustainable future for the shared 2 Seas coastline. Endure is an Interreg 2 seas project proposal aiming to reduce vulnerability and increase sustainable protection of coastal communities to climate change impacts. These objectives should be achieved by increasing capacity of dune ecosystems to adapt to present and future climate change impacts via implementing innovative new management techniques. A consortium of 17 institutions from UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands participate to ENDURE project proposal. The role of FHR will be to ensure exchange of knowledge regarding the dune system morphology, support the monitoring of the pilot sites and the ecological studies, to get insight into processes which control the stability of coastal dunes as effective coastal protection, contribute to the best practice for coastal dunes monitoring and management. |
