Abstract

The ORCAS project investigates different building blocks of a multi-sensor monitoring system designed to detect, classify, and respond to threats or anomalies affecting underwater infrastructure, such as submarine power cables, pipelines, and offshore foundations. The project will develop an intelligent system for proactive asset protection, using a suite of underwater sensors. Next to this fixed sensor system, there will be developments done to enable UxV(s) to be deployed in this proactive asset protection scheme.

GEOxyz manages the overall score and provides the mobile 'eyes and ears' (USVs), e-BO Enterprises ensures the communication and alert system acts as the central 'nervous system' (MIK), Fluves and VLIZ provide the crucial 'hearing' (DAS and hydrophones) and analytical 'brains' (ML, sound library),  RMA contributes the advanced 'intelligence' for threat recognition and response, Kapernikov will focus on the uncertainty-aware change detection, and ID-lab - UAntwerpen contributes mainly on safety-guaranteed data-driven navigational planning.
