Abstract
Since natural conditions in rivers or sewer systems are mostly unsteady, this research project studies the specific behaviour of partly cohesive, natural sediments under transient flow conditions in a laboratory model.

Understanding, modelling and evaluating the sediment transport phenomena of natural partly cohesive mixtures remains a challenge for research and field engineers. Several practical applications as urban drainage systems or estuaries show the necessity to a more fundamental approach of these processes. Currently, natural muds are often highly contaminated, affecting the quality of the general water environment. This research program will provide some fundamental information on the erosion and transport evolution of natural materials under unsteady flow conditions.
