Abstract
The characterization of particulate matter in ice cores can be correlated with historic volcanic eruptions. Conclusions can be drawn on lang range transport of particulate matter. A number of microanalytical techniques (electron microscopy, ion microscopy, microscopical X-ray fluorescence analysis are applied for morphological, structural and analytical characterization.
