Abstract
The result of a study of literature of morphological models predicting the long-term consequences of (human) interference in the geometry of estuaries, with emphasis on the estuary of the Western Scheldt and the Wadden Sea. The physical processes in estuaries and the way nature responds to (human) interference in the estuaries are presented. An overview of already existing morphological models are given. Also it contains an overview of empirical relationships that have been or can be used in numerical models describing the morphological changes in estuaries. The characteristics of the model to be developed are discussed.
