Abstract
Structure and function of Crangon crangon haemocyanine. The molecular weight of the haemocyanine of Crangon crangon was found to be low (approx. 320,000) compared to other Arthropoda. Increase of pH leads to dissociation into smaller sub-units of molecular weight of approx. 160,000 and 80,000. The influence of various ionic effectors on the dissociation pattern of the haemocyanine is investigated. Oxygen equilibrum curves of Crangon crangon serum and haemocyanine preparations are determined and the influence of factors like pH and temperature and ions in solution on these are evaluated. Finally, an attempt is made to correlate observations on structure and function with reference to the influence of temperature, pH, Mg++ and Cl-
