Abstract
The results obtained from 1971 to 1974 in a continuing study of the distribution of tar on the surface of the North Atlantic are presented. In the waters to the north and west of the Gulf Stream /North Atlantic Current system tar pollution was virtually nonexistent. on the other hand, pollution was extensive elsewhere with the highest concentrations in the Sargasso Sea. The observed distribtuion is considered in terms of the inputs and the circulation of North Atlantic surface waters.
