Abstract
Several new applications for Aquamaster azimuthing thrusters have been developed in recent years including towboat and pusher - barge systems for river transportation and double-ended ferries for coastal traffic. Extensive experimental and theoretical studies have been carried out to examine the various hydrodynamic qualities of ships equipped with azimuthing thrusters as well as thruster units and propellers as such. In most cases considered, essential improvements have been obtained in the performance of a thruster powered ship when compared with a conventional ship of the same size and power.
