Abstract
In an experiment on growth and survival of juvenile Astacus astacus, stage 3 larvae were exposed to optimized water temperature for 9 months in different densities. Males showed faster growth than females. The length and weight ranges were wide for both sexes. A high initial density results in poorer growth even after the numbers have stabilized. The weight-length relation (condition) decreased with increasing initial density of the groups. The highest mortality occurred during the first period and increased again during the last experimental period, indicating the necessity of sorting or decreasing the density.
