Abstract
Amino acid profiles (nmol.ml-1) relating to blood drawn simultaneously from the dorsal aorta and hepatic portal vein of 48h starved trout are presented. Comparison is made between such profiles and those relating to the 3h post-fed fish. The significance of the arterio-portal difference values in providing quantitative data on net appearance of amino acids in the portal blood is discussed and the relevance of such results to the potential provision of a standardised laboratory method for assessing the relative replacement values of novel protein formulations is considered.
