Abstract | Several of the hydrodynamical models presently in use or under development at MUMM are described, the emphasis being on the advantages and limitations inherent to each approach. Current applications are briefly discussed. The validation of any hydrodynamical model is a tricky proposition even when the best field data technologically possible are available to test the results of the computations. To some extent, however, independently developed models can be used to validate each other. A series of intercomparison experiments has been undertaken using a 2-D, a 3-D and a 2,5-D model to calculate the wind-driven circulation in an enclosed basin of simple geometric configuration. Preliminary results of the study are presented. |
