Abstract
Berthing and ship-to-ship operations are the most difficult and delicate phase for tanker and LNG carrier navigation. From the view point of the safety operation, to watch the vessel motions of such large carriers at the good accuracy realtime is very important, because it is increasingly required to avoid dangerous conditions for the large tanker and LNG carrier while berthing, To answer such demand, authors have developed Decision Support System (DSS) of ship-to-ship operation using high accuracy differential GPS, which is possible to measure the vessel position at the accuracy of sub meter and real-time. DSS works efficiently at going safety operation under the risky environment and the operators can control the ship by watching own and other vessels‟ motions watching mobile and handy monitor PDA. This paper presents the outstanding characteristics of DSS and shows the full-scale experiments and also the evaluation of DSS.
