Abstract | This identification guide covers fish remnants (otoliths, spines, pharyngeal bones and chewing pads) that are found in marine sediments and in stomach contents, faeces or regurgitates of marine predators of fish. The guide contains up-to-date information on these remnants of almost 100 fish species of the North Sea, Wadden Sea and adjacent fresh waters. The cd-rom includes EM-photographs of otoliths and other hard parts, back-calculation rules that allow estimation of fish size and mass from these parts, and a fully hyperlinked database of the scientific literature on the fish species as prey-items of seabirds and marine mammals. |
