Abstract
A new large Delta Flume is being built in Delft to facilitate measurements at an even larger scale than is presently possible. In Figure 1 an impression of the new flume and its wave maker is given. After 33 years of service the old Delta Flume has reached the end of its functional life. It will be closed once the new flume is operational. The new flume will be used to test sea defences (dunes, dikes), coastal structures (e.g. breakwaters, revetments, and jetties), coastal morphology, eco-dynamic designs, offshore structures, and much more. It will be possible to generate significant wave heights of over 2.2 m and extreme wave heights of over 4 m. This paper describes the foreseen applications of the new flume, its design, the wave generation system, and the measurement techniques.
