Abstract
The pagurid hermit crab genus Pseudopagurodes McLaughlin, 1997, contains two described species, P. piliferus (Henderson, 1888) and P. reconditus (Wang & McLaughlin, 2000). In this study, two additional new species of the genus are described from the Philippines based on material collected by the PANGLAO 2004 Marine Biodiversity Project. Pseudopagurodes annae n. sp. differs from the congeners in the presence of a median row of spines on the dorsal surface of the palm of the right cheliped. Pseudopagurodes capsellatus n. sp. is characterized in having numerous capsulate setae on the lateral and mesial surfaces of the carpi of both chelipeds, arranged in obliquely transverse rows. An identification key to species of the genus, and a table summarizing the differences between species, are presented.
