Abstract | Beam trawl catches of Dichelopandalus bonnieri in 75-80m depth off the S.W. Isle of Man show greatest numbers in the afternoon, sunset and sunrise. Evidence suggests that the shrimps swim up off the bottom at night and during the morning, possibly as a mechanism of dispersal and avoidance of bottom-feeding fish. Feeding appears to take place on the bottom, D. bonnieri probably competing for food with, and sometimes being eaten by Nephrops norvegicus which emerges from its burrows to feed at approximately the same time of the day. |
