Abstract
Compact solutions are presented for planetary, non-divergent, barotropic Rossby wavesgenerated by (i) an impulsive point source and (ii) a sustained point source of curl ofwind stress. Previously, only cumbersome integral expressions were known, renderingthem practically useless. Our simple expressions allow for immediate numericalvisualization/animation and further mathematical analysis.
