Abstract
Numerical tidal models are used to gain information about tides in the present, past, and future. However, modeling strategies are highly dependent on the spatial extent and type of information sought. Physical and numerical issues related to both global and regional tidal modeling are reviewed, including fundamental dynamics, forcing and damping, numerical strategies and nested models, bathymetry and paleobathymetry, and paleotides.
