Abstract
Medifaune is a biological data bank which contains factual data dealing with Mediterranean marine fauna. For about 5000 species on a little more than the 7000 described in the Mediterranean Sea, a coherent data set has been gathered: Nomenclature (Valid names, Synonyms, Vernacular names when possible), taxonomic positions, author(s), and diagnosis date, world-wide and mediterranean distribution, bathymetric range within the Mediterranean Sea, ecology and biology of the species, economical value... More than one hundred of different data are available for each species.
