Abstract
After successful conferences on bank effects, ship-ship interaction, ship behaviour in locks and ship-bottom interaction, the Fifth International Conference on Ship Manoeuvring in Shallow and Confined Water (MASHCON) has a nonexclusive focus on wind, waves and current action on manoeuvring ships. A clear understanding of the ship’s manoeuvring characteristics in waves, wind and currents is essential in both everyday operations and ship safety in so-called adverse conditions. To open a joined research effort on the validation and verification of the different research methods, the Knowledge Centre Manoeuvring in Shallow and Confined Water has selected model test data which were obtained during the execution of seakeeping tests with the DTC container carrier in the framework of the European SHOPERA project. The benchmark data are both captive and free running model tests with the DTC at full draft in calm water and in waves.
