Abstract
A cetacean systematic monitoring programme crossing the Bonifacio Strait started in June 2012. Surveys are conducted regularly 2/4 time a month yearly round using ferry as platform of observation. Fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus) were detected each month, with differences on sighting distribution across seasons. Preliminary results showed that encounter rate is higher in winter (0.203 sigthing/km) compared to summer (0.039 sigthings/km) with most of the sightings distributed inside the area of the Strait.
