Abstract
The river Scheldt and his tributaries are submitted to the tide in het sea. This tide is characterised by different events that enlarge the amplitude. To save the land from floods, the government started in 1977 the execution of the so called Sigmaplan. Due to the growing attention payed the last years to the environmental and ecological values, the Sigmaplan is at this moment in revision, taken in account all aspects related to the rivers and their values.
