Abstract
The basin of the IJzer is one of the ten basins in which the hydrografic system in Flanders is divided in. A good quality of the water of this stream is very important because it is used to make drinking-water. This article describes the quality of the surface water and the part of every target group (house-keepings, industry and agriculture) in the total pollution. This description, the propos-als and scenarios for the possible solutions are the subject of the General Watertreatment Programs (AWP 2). Soon the Flemish Environmental Agency (VMM) will start with a new generation of GWP’s characterized by a broadening in the direction of integral watermanagement programs. Finally, some attention is paid to the policy with regard to the house-keepings and agriculture. With regard to the industry, the focus is put on the so-called “disconnection policy” of the Flemish Environmental Agency (VMM).
