Abstract | Tubificoides heterochaetus is an oligochaete worm, first observed in Belgian water in 1952 in the Scheldt estuary near Doel. It is uncertain where the species originated from and how it ended up in our regions. This species might be native to the estuaries along the North Atlantic coast. However, this oligochaete may have always been present in our regions and just never been discovered before. Therefore, some scientists define the species as cryptogenic. |
