Abstract
The branchial gland from the cuttlefish (cephalopod mollusc) consists of extensively irrigated tissue, which shows a typical ultrastructure of protein-secreting cells: prominent nucleolus, elaborate system of granular endoplasmic reticulum and active Golgi apparatus. The possible hemopoietic role of the gland is sustained by our biochemical results.
