Abstract
    Previous work has shown that Artemia salina L. may be reared on microcapsules with a nylon-protein wall containing simple diets. Present studies show that capsules may be used to further determine nutritional requirements of small planktonic Crustacea. A metabolic tracer experiment is described which shows that encapsulated (1-C14) palmitic acid is incorporated into the body lipids of Artemia . Observations on the feeding of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man) larvae have led to the design of a larger capsule containing a semi-solid diet. The preparation of this capsule is described and results of feeding experiments with a range of decapod larvae are discussed in relation to the formulation and encapsulation of a complete artificial diet.
