Abstract
The hydrodynamical-numerical method developed by HANSEN makes it possible to determine the motion in oceanic areas in adjacent and marginal seas, in shelf areas as well as in estuaries and rivers. In many cases the method has been applied successfully to the quantitative reproduction of tides and storm surges. For the numerical treatment of the hydrodynamical equations the natural conditions, such as depth distribution, boundary values and -as far as these are effective -meteorological data and density distribution, were considered.
