WINMON: Impact of offshore wind farms on the marine environment in the Belgian Part of the North Sea Citation Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries research (ILVO); Marine Biology Research Group (Ugent-Marbiol); Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO); Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences (RBINS), Directorate Natural Environment (OD Nature), Belgian Marine Data Centre (BMDC): WINMON: Impact of offshore wind farms on the marine environment in the Belgian Part of the North Sea. https://marineinfo.org/id/dataset/5963 Availability: The data can be made available upon request, please use contact information. Description Data on the Belgian offshore wind farm environmental programme (WinMon.be). Within this monitoring programme, RBINS and its partners assess the extent of the anticipated impacts onto the marine ecosystem and aim at revealing the processes behind these impacts. The first objective is tackled through basic monitoring, focusing on the a posteriori, resultant impact quantification, while the second monitoring objective is covered by the targeted or process monitoring, focusing on the cause-effect relationships of a priori selected impacts. Scope Themes: Biology > Benthos > Epibenthos, Biology > Benthos > Macrobenthos, Biology > Birds, Biology > Ecology - biodiversity, Biology > Fish, Coastal studies (e.g. shores, estuaries) Keywords: Marine/Coastal, Environmental impacts, Offshore wind farms, Renewable energy, Sediment, ANE, Belgium, Belgian Continental Shelf (BCS), ANE, Belgium, Zeeland Banks, Thornton Bank, ANE, Bligh Bank, Arthropoda, Clupeiformes, Cnidaria, Echinodermata, Gadiformes, Mollusca, Perciformes, Pleuronectiformes, Rajiformes, Scorpaeniformes, Syngnathiformes, Zeiformes Geographical coverage ANE, Belgium, Belgian Continental Shelf (BCS) [Marine Regions] ANE, Belgium, Zeeland Banks, Thornton Bank [Marine Regions] ANE, Bligh Bank [Marine Regions] Temporal coverage From 2005 on [In Progress] Taxonomic coverage Parameters Bird density Epibenthos density Methodology Fish density Methodology Fish length Methodology Fish measurements Methodology Grain size distribution Macrobenthos biomass Methodology Macrobenthos density Methodology Median grain size Organic matter (OM) Sediment characteristics Epibenthos density: Beam trawling A beam trawl net was towed for 25-minutes at a towing speed of 2 knots.
