Abstract
    The Wigley hull is an analytical hull shape broadly used for the prediction of hydrodynamic behaviour based on numerical Methods. An extensive test program was executed with a single Wigley hull in the Tank for Manoeuvres in Confined Water in Antwerp with under keel clearances of 50, 35 and 10% of the ship’s draft. Afterwards a second Wigley hull was Attached to an auxiliary carriage at a distance of 1.75 times the ship breadth between the ship side and the tank wall. Meetings and overtakings were executed with varying speed ratios, drift angles for the Wigley hull attached to the main Carriage, and distances between the ship sides. The measured forces and moment in the horizontal plane and sinkages have Been analysed and compared with drift and yaw angle models of a full body inland ship. Preliminary computations of Straight motion tests with one Wigley hull with the CFD package FINE/Marine explained the drawbacks of a confined Tank for determining manoeuvring mathematical models. The reader is invited to select benchmark tests for numerical Research from the complete test matrix.
