Abstract | Synidotea laticauda originally occurred in the shallow brackish water along the west coast of the United States. This omnivore is mainly found on hard substrates like buoys, pontoons and oyster beds. This isopod was observed for the first time in 2005, in the Sea Scheldt near the Doel Nuclear Power Station. Probably, the species was introduced to Belgium – as well as to France and Spain – with the ballast water of ships. |
