Abstract | The Brazilian spiral tubeworm Neodexiospira brasiliensis is a cryptogenic species with a possible origin in the West Atlantic Ocean or the Indo-Pacific region. Although the primary introduction vector that led to its arrival in Western European waters in 1974 is not definitively known, it is suspected that international shipping played a significant role. Secondary introduction occurs through attachment to vegetations, such as Japanese wireweed or Eelgrass, or via recreational boating. The species was first found in Belgium in 2023, in the Sluice Dock in Ostend. |
