Abstract | Biogenic reefs provide multiple ecosystem services, including attenuating wave energy, stabilizing sediments, and providing a habitat for marine species. In this study, I’m investigating the (a)biotic consequences of biogenic reef (re)introductions in the southern North Sea using a modelling approach. Three types of ecological models, (1) a habitat suitability model, (2) a NPZD model and a (3) food web model, are used to (1) investigate if there are suitable locations in the Belgian part of the North Sea and study the effects on (2) phytoplankton dynamics and (3) the food web. |
